Valve tries to reduce the torrent of trash games.
As many games as this year have never been released on the PC games platform Steam and 2017 is still not over. According to the analyst Daniel Ahmad, more than 6.000 games have already been released this year – almost as many as were released on Steam between 2005 and 2015.
As impressive as the number appears, quantity is not quality.
One reason for the rapidly increasing number of releases is the simplified licensing process for game developers through Steam Direct. Numerous cheap clones and trash games are in circulation. At the same time, the popularity of developing games, which can be purchased in advance through Early Access, is fueling an increase in releases.
A better filter-system
Valve wants to control the flood of spam games in the future by implementing a new shop interface, better filter options and the expansion of the Steam curator system.
It will take a while until all new features will be in action. (11.14.2017)
